The Cheryl Newby Gallery is pleased to represent North Carolina artist Paula B. Holtzclaw. Working in both oils and acrylics, Holtzclaw has become known for her exquisite landscapes which are executed in a classical realist manner. Her exceptional command of space and light seem to be an innate gift. Places unspoiled and undeveloped by man have become her favorite landscape subjects whether in the Carolina lowcountry, the mountains of North Carolina, the Colorado Rockies, or the New England sea shore. In addition to her landscape paintings Holtzclaw also enjoys painting floral still-life works rendered in oil or acrylic. Holtzclaw believes that her passion for art and painting was passed on to her by her two Grandmothers, both of whom were artists. She began making art at an early age and finally returned to her original passion for painting after raising her twin sons. In 2002 Holtzclaw left her 20 year medical career to paint fulltime. Since that time she has been the recipient of many awards and juried into numerous exhibitions around the United States. Among those are the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society, “Best of America 2008” 18th Annual National Juried Exhibit in Bolivar, MO.; American Women Artists 2007 National Juried Competition “Award of Merit” in Scottsdale, Arizona; and American Artist Magazine, 70th Anniversary Competition, semi-finalist 2007. |
