George
Edwards
(1694-1773)
Although the idea
of producing an illustrated study of birds did not occur to
George Edwards until he was in his late forties, his works
are among the most admired in the science of ornithology.
Prints from his celebrated, "A Natural History of Uncommon
Birds" (1743, are highly sought after by collectors and
lovers of the art of natural history. So beautiful and intriguing
were these images, that a number of Edwards' illustrations
were copied by Chelsea porcelain manufacturers.
We are pleased
to offer for purchase a number of lovely hand-colored copperplate
engravings from Mr. Edwards

History of Uncommon Birds"
